One of the Must-Visit Places in Baoan, Shenzhen – OH BAY

I have been living and working in Shenzhen since 2019, and I’ve been in Baoan for nearly two years. I always search for places to go on weekends, and OH BAY is the ideal spot to hang out, especially in the late afternoon with the sunset glow and sea breeze.

Shenzhen has a subtropical monsoon climate, with long, hot summers. Going out in the evening is the best choice. On clear evenings, I’m always pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful sunset glows. When I first arrived in Shenzhen, I felt like the sky here was lower than at home, and I randomly guessed that it might be because it’s closer to the equator.

OH BAY is located in the southern coastal area of Baoan District, Shenzhen, covering an area of 380,000 square meters. I forgot how I felt the first time I visited, but I vaguely remember it was during some Chinese festival. There were many young people, plenty of restaurants, street performers, and photographers taking pictures of them. It had all the bustling energy that Shenzhen is known for, but I left after a quick look around.

I truly started liking this place after I fell in love. Together with Kangjia, we would go for leisurely strolls. On certain weekend afternoons, we’d head out just as the sun was about to set, taking the subway, and later riding a small electric scooter from our rental apartment. The evening breeze and the lingering sunlight could sweep away the fatigue and dullness of being cooped up inside.

If the weather was good, the breeze passing through our bodies and the sky filled with sunset glow overhead would make us feel relaxed and enchanted. After arriving, we’d park the scooter at the entrance and walk in. There were usually small vendors setting up stalls. From my observation, freshly made lemon tea, ice cream, and other cold drinks were the most popular. In the sweltering summer, these refreshing beverages received the most attention.

OH BAY is divided into East and West banks, each with its own commercial street. The Ferris wheel is on the East bank. It is said that one round of the Ferris wheel takes 13 minutes and 14 seconds, symbolizing the most romantic and everlasting number in love.

But in reality, a full round takes 30 minutes, and each cabin can accommodate 25 people. The Ferris wheel stands 128 meters tall, making it the highest Ferris wheel in Shenzhen, offering a panoramic view of the Qianhai area.

Leaving the Ferris wheel, if you follow the shore towards the West bank, you’ll pass by the musical fountain. Through the crowd, you can reach Michelin Street, where you can enjoy a variety of delicious foods.

After enjoying the meal, walk back and feel the cool evening breeze. Holding hands with the one you love, it doesn’t feel cold at all.

If the timing is right, you might catch a romantic musical fountain light show.

If you still have time and energy, there are many shops to browse through—clothing, trendy toys, accessories, and even a library.

When the visitors’ heat and enthusiasm fade, it’s time to go home.

Latest news: In 2024, OH BAY was officially listed as a national 4A tourist attraction. Are you sure you don’t want to visit?
