Shooting Stars Over the Ancient Walls of Zhaoqing and the Sunrise at General Mountain

When it comes to love, I’ve had countless fantasies, imagining doing so many things together with him. Watching the sunrise and sunset were definitely high on that list. And if we were to catch a glimpse of a shooting star by chance, it would certainly be a heavenly blessing for our love.

After exploring Dinghu Mountain on the first day, we checked into the old town area of Duanzhou District in Zhaoqing in the afternoon. Choosing the old town was a must because it offers longstanding local delicacies, architecture, and the most authentic local culture. We headed out to find food before the sun completely set and climbed the ancient city walls of Zhaoqing as the sun was just about to dip below the horizon. If the sun is bright, the weather must be good, and there would be a chance of seeing a beautiful evening glow. Being close to the sea, there would be a sea breeze, which is what I love most about coastal city climates.

With colorful clouds above and the sea breeze on our faces, we took photos to capture the moment. And then, in an unexpected glance upward, we saw a shooting star again. Although we couldn’t capture it in a photo, sometimes memories are more beautiful than pictures.

Climbing General Mountain wasn’t part of this trip’s original plan, but before going to bed, I read a post saying you could drive up the mountain, so I set the alarm for 5 a.m. After coordinating with the second Didi driver, we headed up the mountain. We passed through a city that had yet to wake up and Qixingyan, reaching the top just before sunrise. Unlike other tourist spots, there were very few visitors here, and we even found a scenic spot bench to sit on while watching the sunrise. I love this kind of environment. The morning breeze at the mountaintop, combined with the summer season, brought a unique sense of coolness and freshness that only the morning can provide.

The sunrise happened quickly. In just ten minutes, the sunlight evenly spread across every corner, with the colors gradually brightening. Looking up again, the entire world had already transformed into daytime. We hurried down the mountain before it got too hot, with the final stop of our journey still ahead—Qixingyan.
